My involvement with coaching pitchers over the past 25 years at the high school, Babe Ruth and Little League levels led me to develop Pitch Count. It is the coaching tool I wanted years ago.
Specifically designed as a practical and affordable coaching tool, Pitch Count provides, in real-time, two critical statistics for assessing a pitcher’s performance:
- The number of pitches thrown; and
- The percentage of strikes thrown.
Pitch Count has been designed for coaches to use while allowing them to keep their eyes on a pitcher's mechanics and/or the game in general.
Pitch Count is particularly aimed at youth baseball, however, it can be used at all levels of the game. Overuse is the number one cause of injury among baseball pitchers, especially youth pitchers.
A Pitch Count on a pitcher is also important for strategic reasons. The advantage of Pitch Count is that in addition to displaying the total number of pitches thrown, it also displays the percentage of strikes thrown at any given time. The number of pitches thrown coupled with the percentage of strikes thrown during a practice session or game is informative and valuable to any coach from both a strategic and instructional perspective. Additionally, tracking pitcher performance is informative for parents of pitchers and entertaining for other fans.
Thank you very much for your interest,
Dave Tinsley
